Position Overview: In collaboration with the Cut to Length (CTL) Operators, the general laborer will assist with set up, processing, stacking, packaging, and material handling of stainless steel and aluminum rolled coil and processed sheets in accordance with specialized instructions to prepare the material for packaging and shipment to the final customer.

Essential Responsibilities and Job Duties:

  • Minor lifting & movement of up to 50lbs, moderate to extended walking & standing.
  • Building skids, banding and sheet pushing. Working a table saw to cut boards to specified sizes. Using a nail gun to build the skids.
  • Assist in duties at the end of the line which include the packaging of the material (covering the material with cardboard, paper, or plastic), working a battery -controlled hand bander to secure material to skid.
  • General shop cleaning. Sweeping, straightening up of packaging supplies (cardboard, pvc paper, corner boards, lumber boards, etc.)
  • Operation of a tow motor to move bundles of lumber or small items on the floor.
  • Processing line “pusher” to move skids and package the sheets on the skid
  • Responsible for correct stacking of processed sheets, scrap, hand tool maintenance, and quality of product.
  • Interpret instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Read production schedules and work orders to plan the efficient sequence of operations, apply knowledge of physical properties of slit and Cut to Length (CTL) materials.
  • Build custom skids to specification utilizing saws, jigs, fixtures, and heavy-duty nail guns.
  • Assist with the positioning of steel coils and processed sheets on the conveyor, using crane, chain hoists and lift trucks.
  • Measure completed processed sheets to verify conformance to specifications, using tape measure, micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.

Cut to Length Line Operator – 1st Shift

Position Overview: The successful candidate in this position will be responsible for operating a cut to length processing line. This includes machine operation as well as providing direction to support line workers. Product quality is crucial as well as demonstrating a willingness to do whatever needs to be done to keep production moving while not sacrificing quality.

What you will be required to do:

  • Operate the 96”-line walking from one end of the line to the other
  • Inspect top and bottom line surface quality
  • Perform gage checks (use of a hand-held micrometer)
  • Set flatteners or levelers which are done with a control board
  • Operate the shear (done by the pressing of buttons)
  • Work with a tape measurer
  • Assist with duties at the end of the line such as packaging of the material, working a battery-controlled hand bander to secure material to skid
  • Assist with packaging
  • Weigh out materials
  • Assist with building skids when needed
  • Movement of up to 50 lbs.
  • Cut to Length/Leveling Line or Machine operator experience (aluminum or stainless) – metals industry
  • Ensure strong shift starts. Make sure both shifts have schedules, are staffed, and material set-up for processing.
  • Work with QC, enforcing/maintaining product quality standards
  • Responsible for equipment preventative maintenance program
  • Enforce plant safety awareness programs.
  • Identify and communicate process improvement opportunities. Champion to completion as needed.
  • Keep plant supervisor advised of workload, schedules, issues, and progress of any special projects.
  • Schedule the packaging, pick-up, and delivery of materials as required

What you must demonstrate:

  • 3+ years’ CONTINUAL experience in a related manufacturing role
  • High School diploma preferred; Completion of 8th grade at a minimum
  • Familiarity with coil processing (aluminum or stainless) preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude

Also, this job requires learning all of the general laborer duties, shipping and receiving duties and operating an overhead crane.   • Position steel coils on the uncoiler conveyor, using crane, chain hoists and lift trucks.
  • Clean and lubricate machine, hand tools, and banding equipment.
  • Measure completed processed sheets to verify conformance to specifications, using tape measure, micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.
  • Position, align, and secure guides, runners, skids, or other fixtures to secure and direct the finished product, using hand tools and measuring devices.
  • Place completed sheet steel using crane, sheet lifter, or signal crane operators to transport them to subsequent shipping stations.
  • Unload coil delivery trucks with coil grab and C-hook.
  • Load finished product on outbound truck with available sheet lifters and lift trucks.
  • Examine finished product to ensure that the product conforms to specifications, utilizing knowledge and experience and placing and suspect coils on hold for quality control/inspection.
  • Report and submit maintenance work orders, as necessary.
  • Complete all data entry to job work order documentation and associated materials.
  • Will provide specific on the job training.

What you must demonstrate:

  • Prefer 1-3+ years’ CONTINUAL experience in a related manufacturing role
  • Ability to work on elevated platforms
  • Prefer prior crane operation experience
  • High School diploma preferred; Completion of 8th grade at a minimum
  • Familiarity with coil processing (aluminum or stainless) preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Dependability is a critical requirement
  • Ability to use a tape measure when measurement must be precise (fractions)
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
